Monk Fruit... is that what I'm tasting?
The main sweetener in Keto-Snaps is monk fruit (luo han guo). This unique fruit, indigenous to southern China, gets most of its sweet taste from compounds called mogrosides, not glucose and fructose like table sugar does. Mogrosides are 150-200 times sweeter than sugar but have zero calories or carbohydrates.Numerous studies have found mogrosides to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in addition to their sweetness, but the one slight downside to monk fruit is that some people notice a mild bitter aftertaste in products containing it. However, many people as well find the taste pleasant and less bitter than other zero-calorie sweeteners, especially artificial ones such as saccharin and aspartame.
